‘Pepper Spray Cop’ loses his job
[I GUESS SOMETIMES POLICE BRUTALITY DOESN’T PAY]

The infamous “Pepper Spray Cop” who attracted widespread criticism toward a California college last year is off the beat permanently, The Sacramento Bee reports.
A spokesperson for the University of California-Davis, where John Pike was captured pepper-spraying a group of seated protesters last November, said Pike was no longer employed with the school as of Tuesday, but did not specify whether Pike was fired or if he resigned, citing campus privacy rules.
Pike and his supervisor, campus police chief Annette Spicuzza, had been on paid administrative leave since the Nov. 18 incident. Spicuzza resigned in April, saying she did not want it to become a “defining moment” in her career. According to The Bee, Pike’s 2010 salary was reportedly just over $110,000.
A member of the Research Team witnessed officers arresting a protester. A number of officers took the protester to the ground, and restrained him as he lay face-first on the street. The Research Team member heard the protester cry out, and knelt down to observe the arrest. She then witnessed an officer pull back his leg and kick the protester hard in the face. Another witness also saw the incident. Efforts to obtain the badge number of the responsible officer were thwarted by police, who refused to identify the officer and then took him away in a police van.

Justice for Tasered 8 Months Pregnant Woman!
- Target: Chicago Police Department
- Sponsored by: Brittany E.G.
Police in Chicago used a Taser on an African-American woman who is 8 months pregnant because she parked in a handicapped parking space.
Tiffany Rent parked there because she was trying to calm down her 3-year-old daughter. She tried to explain what happened, but they wouldn’t listen. Instead, they gave her a ticket for $200.
The police, who had blocked her in, started insulting her —one told her to call Jesse Jackson — and Rent got into her car because she was scared. They tasered her through the window, and her boyfriend, Joseph Hobbs, had his elbow dislocated while trying to protect her. This all happened in front of her children.
Rent and Hobbs were taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest and simple assault. Rent was taken to the hospital for treatment and may have to deliver her baby early because of the stress.
Please tell the Chicago Police Department to do a full investigation of this incident and get justice for Tiffany Rent!
German Police Used Only 85 Bullets Against People in 2011
According to Germany’s Der Spiegel, German police shot only 85 bullets in all of 2011, a stark reminder that not every country is as gun-crazy as the U.S. of A. As Boing Boing translates, most of those shots weren’t even aimed anyone: “49 warning shots, 36 shots on suspects. 15 persons were injured, 6 were killed.” […]
Meanwhile, in the U.S., where the population is little less than four times the size of Germany’s, well, we can get to 85 in just one sitting, thank you very much. 84 shots fired at one murder suspect in Harlem, another 90 shot at one fleeing unarmed man in Los Angeles. And that was just April.

From the Delhi police: Why women deserve to be raped
proof that a lot of the work of the women’s movement needs to happen outside the US and Europe…
“One, she is not in a salwar kameez or sari, at all times
Two, if a woman is in a sexual relationship with one man, then she deserves to be raped by him and all his friends.
Three, she keeps the company of drunk men.
Four, a girl deserves to be raped because her mother is a ‘slut.’
Five, a woman deserves to be raped because she belongs to the upper class – or the lower class.”
